As a former Associate Director, Government Relations, with the Joint Commission (“JC”), Carol helped to develop the Joint Commission’s standards for Human Resource Management in collaboration with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”) and provided oversight of JC surveys domestically and internationally to assess for compliance with these standards. She has held leadership positions in healthcare systems and in Nursing Services, Risk and Compliance and Operations Management and held positions as Privacy Official and Compliance Officer. As Senior Vice President of Aon Healthcare’s Risk Management Group, Carol provided risk, regulatory and operational advisory to large integrated healthcare delivery systems, ACOs, commercial and public payers, hospitals, medical group practices, ambulatory surgery and senior care facilities, and healthcare organizations including risk assessments, gap analyses, and Root Cause and Failure Modes Analyses in response to Sentinel Events. A contributing author to C.V. Mosby’s Patient Care Standards, and various publications, she was also a member and contributor to the national ACLC Taskforce on Quality Standards for Accountable Care Organizations (“ACOs”) which set quality standards for ACOs nationwide.
Carol has served as an advisor and national conference speaker for CMS, the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management, National Patient Safety Foundation, American Nurses Association, the Risk and Insurance Management Society, and to the Board of Regents of the University of California’s Office of the President. As Director of Healthcare Compliance, Risk, Performance and Governance for PwC, Carol provided oversight of independent program integrity audit teams for large integrated healthcare systems and served as an Independent Review Organization (“IRO”) auditor for organizations under Corporate Integrity Agreements with the DHHS Office of the Inspector General. She holds certifications in healthcare risk management and healthcare compliance.
